Well, it’s my birthday for another 45 minutes. On my Asana list for today was not only to attend a meeting, the first time I can recall ever working on my birthday, as well as blogging. All in all it’s been a great and relaxing day. As has become our tradition, we combined my birthday celebration with my sister-in-law’s whose birthday was on the 20th. I don’t recall ever having such a chill day with my immediate family.

Because the weather was dreary we stayed in at the hotel. The kids went to the pool with my brother while the rest of us, my mom, dad, husband and sister-in-law hung out in our connecting hotel room. We chatted, watched television, we did what I enjoyed most, simply being together as a family. The morning started off with me being awakened after what only seemed like a handful of hours sleep. After all, I had spent the past several days in a deep Netflix binge fest. On Friday I watched the entire first season of True Detective (on the advice of one of my first cousins) and then, since his other suggesting Fargo wasn’t available on Netflix, I started watching a recommendation of my brother, Arrow. So, in about three days I also finished the 55 hour-long episodes and am now completely caught up with the entire series. In the early morning hour I sit huddled in front of my computer wishing sleep would come. Until just a few moments ago it was singularly the one thing that I wanted more than anything. However, my computer then reminded me of how frustrating it has become attempting to do anything that involves the Internet. I’m a smart and savvy person and I assure you, many hours have been spent trying to troubleshoot why the Internet seems to hate me. No mater the browser, the frequency of clearing the cache, using security software or none at and regardless of all rhyme and reason, pages take an eternity to load. Even Chrome’s own diagnostic tool is fooled into thinking that the Internet experience is a good one. Chrome, Safari and Firefox seem to harbor the same issues. It’s enough to drive anyone mad. I particularly hate having to remove security software that I paid good money for. Yes, I use a Mac but when it comes to my computer, I’m going to do everything that I can in order to protect it. But now that WordPress has loaded and I’m able to “put pen to paper” I’m in a better frame of mind, one where I can lament on why I’m not sleeping at 4 o’clock in the morning.

I’ve been sick since Sunday, what I thought was the flu turned out to be, well, to be honest, I don’t know for sure. Yes, both my husband and I were sitting in the examination room while I was poked and prodded but his head was buried in his phone with his headphones on, missing the comic stylings of our family doctor. I was elsewhere, my left ear felt as though it was swollen shut and I hadn’t had a good night’s rest in days. I’ve been working on projects for work that have kept me engaged and interested and when I likely should have been getting some rest, I worked. In the end I was given a nebulizer treatment, a steroid shot in a very shocked butt cheek and then was also started on a regime of steroids. So, the long and short of it is that I’m wired. I personal cause havoc with my sleep schedule but now, when I wish sleep would come, when I’d like to curl up with my husband, I find that I can’t sit idle. I have to be productive in some way. And since I’ve been actively using Asana I have a constant and up-to-date run down on the things I’d like to get accomplished. Although posting to my blog wasn’t meant to happen until Tuesday, at 4am, I deemed it the best choice among the list to tackle. Continue reading “Go to Sleep” →

I’ve been in a peavy mood since yesterday. It bothered me so much so that today was not as productive as I’d hoped it would be. Fortunately, there was nothing that I needed to do on my list that I wasn’t able to complete. It impacted me working a bit ahead. I was, however, able to make my post on my business blog (something I plan on doing once a month). It’s crazy when things get into your head and change your mood. It was one of those times when you get so upset that you can’t think straight, that you can’t accomplish anything. Yeh, today was one of those types of days. I was angry and hurt. I foolishly felt that all the time and years I spent in public libraries was an utter waste of my time and energy. However, like most things, it’s a matter of perspective. I had to calm myself down. Sure, I did have to do a bit of venting but I think I’ve mostly gotten it out of my system. For now. You know how these things are. You think you’re past something and then there’s this one thing that triggers the pity party all over again.

Did I mention that I have also been feeling a bit uneasy over the past few days and that the chill of the weather hasn’t helped? The winter weather is starting to rear its very ugly head. The past two mornings I have not wanted to get up to work. Our bedroom suite is located over the living room with the office being over the unheated garage. I have been chilled all day. In our massive room there is only one vent and even with the fans oscillating in the correct direction and the bedroom door open I’m wrapped up in two heavy fleece blankets and am wearing little booties. Needless to say, I spent a bit of time researching space heaters and purchased two on Amazon. I missed next day delivery by two minutes. So tomorrow I’ll be wrapped up again and Thursday will bring some much-needed relief. Continue reading “10 Steps” →
