I’m Finally Going to Sleep

I’m almost deliriously tired. That’s the kind of tired where even though you’re exhausted you can’t go to sleep. I am about to leave the office and wanted to write before I headed home and forced myself to get some much-needed sleep. Fortunately tomorrow won’t be an early morning so I’ll be able to catch up on some sleep. I then hope to, in addition to working, get some of my unpublished poems up on my site and start work on my novella.

Today was as busy as yesterday and I feel as though it’s already Thursday given my lack of sleep. I get like this sometimes. I go to extremes. Sometimes I’m just wired and other times I’m just really apathetic. The upside to this period of activity is that I have decided definitively on the title of the novella I plan to write as well as all the primary character names. I even Googled the name of the book as well as the main character to make sure they weren’t already in existence or a famous person’s name. Now it’s just a matter of finding the time to write. That will of course start when I can ensure I have had some decent sleep.

I also have a long list of poems to add to my website. I keep stumbling on more that I’ve never shared and have never even typed up. I have an envelope full of poems. Many of them are written on stationery from a number of hotels and even cruise ships. That isn’t to say that they were composed in these places. No, it’s nothing quite so tantalizing although some were. However, hotel stationery is the perfect size to carry around in my purse or even have on my night stand. It makes it quite convenient when I need to write something down. I still prefer hand writing my poems. It’s been quite some time since I last wrote one and even composed the first couplet to one yesterday but stopped. All the same, I’m really anxious to get them out there.

Go to Sleep

Quite honestly I should already be asleep. I slept all of 4 hours last night due to being overly excited about a book I’d like to write as well as the Arnold Palmer I was still drinking moments before trying to go to bed. Today was a short day at work. Staff development consisted of us spending four hours in the office. I came home and had fully intended on doing some writing. That didn’t happen. In today’s wee hours I’d repeatedly grabbed my phone in order to jot down a few notes about character names, motivation and plot and had planned to do some actual writing when I’d made it home. Instead I decided to watch a movie with the hubby, This is the End. Honestly and ridiculously, it was time well-spent. If you enjoy watching movies with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, etc. you’ll definitely want to see it.

Afterwards I lay in bed planning to go to sleep. The exhaustion was setting in. However, Kenrick suggested it being a bad idea to go to sleep before 6 pm. He was right, of course. But, as is always the case, even when my body is screaming at me to go to sleep I push through it in order to have myself feel as though I’ve actually accomplished something other than watching a movie. I decided then to continue with my website migrations. I moved my business site, dashingassistance.com from a self-hosted site to WordPress.com as I’d done with my personal site. This transition was far less tricky since it consisted of a total of six text-driven pages. The fun was in selecting the theme. I had to rework it a bit but I think it was for the best. I’m So Excited!!!

Today was spent somewhat productively. I was at first a little skeptical about the grand undertaking of redoing my website. I don’t do anything small. When I change something it’s huge, a full overhaul. My website was originally self-hosted, a WordPress.org site. Now, well, now, wary of doing the whole self-hosting thing I decided that I’d just move it to WordPress.com. Ages ago I’d already secured the blog, latoyadavidson.wordpress.com. Call it greedy or call it smart, I did so in order to keep the name for myself. Imagine how shocked I became when years ago I found out that my name wasn’t as uniquely my own as I’d hoped it would be.

It’s a bit of money, at least for me it is. In one click (okay, a series of clicks) I was paying another big company money that I don’t have. Trust me when I say that self-hosting is a lot less money. However, there is a bit of piece of mind in simply paying someone else to take care of things. I had so many plugins on my original site and there was always something that needs to be updated. So, now that I have more time on my hands, okay, theoretically I have more time on my hands, I can quickly jump on to post a quick entry. Be sure to check out my poetry page. I realized that there are quite a few more that I need to post and was equally shocked at how many I’ve written over the years. I seriously considered publishing a book of poetry but decided against it. Think about it, when was the last time you or I purchased a book of poetry. Exactly.

So after several hours of editing my site it’s time to call it a night. Staff training day tomorrow and hopefully I’ll post more of my poems. Also, I have a grand idea for my first book! More details to come. I promise.
