Poem for You

If only you knew me,
And took time to see.
That person you hurt,
Was really and truly me.

We often take risks,
When opening our heart.
One roll of the dice,
And the roller coaster starts.

The chances we take,
Certainty unknown.
An exciting beginning,
But bends in the road.

It’s not always easy,
In starting over again.
Accepting the past,
Healing will mend.

Two broken and bloodied,
One sprints from the start.
The other one leery,
Protecting his heart.

Country and islands,
Many mountains between.
Cornbread and pudding,
The rest is unseen.
