I almost loved you,
I almost tried,
To put away the pain,
Of the past now left behind.

For a brief moment of pleasure,
You almost had me believe,
That I was something special,
That I was the one you need.

The funny thing about almost,
Is that it’s never quite for sure,
Not quite a certainty,
But almost always leaves me sore.

Always a bit impulsive,
Wanting the glass slipper to fit,
I almost felt the magic,
In our momentary tryst.

I almost felt beautiful,
And almost took the leap,
I almost dismissed sanity,
And almost didn’t weep.

History comes full circle,
As I’m drawn to the same,
Almost finding happiness,
Almost free from my disdain.
